UNDER the theme: “Transforming the mind, developing the nation through motivation and inspiration,” the Guyana Police Force (GPF) ‘A’ Division in collaboration with ‘A’ Division Youth Groups hosted a career day fair Saturday at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary.

Over 1,000 children from 27 Youth Clubs across the Police Divisions participated in the Career Day. Also in attendance was Minister of Education, Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine.
Some of the booths present included: the GPF, Guyana Defence Force ,Guyana Fire Service, the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, the Guyana School of Agriculture, the Guyana National Newspapers Limited, the Guyana Rice Development Board, University of Guyana Health Sciences Department, E R Burrowes School of Art, Guyana Responsible Parenthood Association, Museum of African Heritage, Modfin Beauty School, the National Communications Network, the President’s Youth Award Republic of Guyana, S&S Fruit Services, and the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute.
In his address, the Minister of Education commended the efforts of the Guyana Police Force, more specifically the Divisional
Commander, Officers and ranks of “A” Division and other stakeholders, for staging the event and offered his congratulations on the choice of the theme for the Career Day, the elements of which he said strike at the core of education in Guyana.

He stated that he was impressed with the emphasis placed on local activities and local products observed in the exhibition booths and expressed the view that they will generate high interest in the youths.
Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine also noted that many of the children attending the Career Fair were at an important stage of their lives where decisions will influence the kind of persons they become, and urged that they pay close attention to their parents, teachers and those who give them guidance in order that they may be able to make contributions to building Guyana.
Delivering brief remarks on the occasion was Commissioner of Police Mr. Seelall Persaud, DSM, who also complimented “A” Division
for making the Career Day a reality and posited that the event had important values.

To the children of the youth clubs, many of whom are completing secondary education and may be entering the labour force, he said the fair would help them to seize the opportunity to explore the diversity of the work environment.
He said the fair also presented the exhibitors with the opportunity to recruit labour.
The fair also helped to showcase the Police Force as one that is being transformed into a service-oriented and social problem-solving Police Force.
The youths also participated in cultural performances such as songs, dancing, a skit, physical display and a story line that were all well received.
In addition, musical entertainment was provided by the Police Steel Band and others.
