THIRTY-EIGHT-year-old Dennis Marks was remanded to prison on Friday — a few hours after he was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital — after he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, charged with the murder of Police Sergeant Leonard La Rose.Marks, a farmer of Matthews Ridge, North West District in Region One,
Had been shot in his left foot, and had to be lifted into Court One. The court heard that the accused murdered La Rose, who was on duty on March 1 at Holes, Matthews Ridge.
Marks was not required to plead to the charge, and was remanded until May 3. The case was transferred to the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
According to reports, on the day in question, police ranks went to arrest Marks, who was wanted pending investigations into a report of alleged rape. During efforts to arrest him, Marks attacked the ranks with a knife, stabbing Sergeant La Rose to his neck and two other ranks to their chest and right hand respectively.
A rank subsequently shot him to his right foot.
La Rose was pronounced dead on arrival at the Matthews Ridge Hospital.
