Charged with murder of Cuban engineer

A 37-year-old man was remanded to prison on Tuesday by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after being charged with the murder of a Cuban engineer.Lawrence Lowe appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for allegedly murdering 47-year–old Joel Perez Laffita on March 8, 2016 at Providence, East Bank Demerara during a robbery.

Lowe, a labourer of Parker Street, Providence was ordered to return to court on April 25. He was unrepresented and was not required to plea to the indictable offense.

According to the report, Laffita arrived in Guyana on board the MV Tracy Coaic which docked at the Rubis Wharf on the East Bank Demerara and was found dead on the Providence roadway hours after he disembarked the vessel.
