Massive horse race meeting planned

Guyana is set to have one of its biggest horse race meetings next month as the Four Horsemen Promotion group has planned an event for the Corentyne. The group is staging a massive meeting with lucrative prizes on May 22 at the Port Mourant Turf Club.
The meeting has seven races scheduled and is being held as part of Guyana’s 50th Independence Celebrations. A release from the promoters stated that the feature race of the day will see horses classified as A and Lower competing for one of the largest first prizes in local racing.
The race is over a distance of 1900 metres and carries a first prize of one and one half million dollars. The owners of the horse placing second will take home seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars while the third place finisher is guaranteed three hundred and seventy five thousand dollars.
Another expected exciting race is D3 Maiden over a distance of 1400 metres or seven furlongs. This race has attracted a first price of seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
The meeting would be run according to the rules of the Guyana Horse Race Authority and entries close on May 15th.
