A GOLD-MINER and one of his employees were shot and injured following an attempted robbery on Regent Street Thursday afternoon. The Guyana Chronicle understands that five shots were fired in front of Household Electronics before the bandits escaped. Injured are: Shazam Ali, 35, of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE). He was shot to the right thigh, while his porter Narine Samadeen, 28, of Parika, EBE, sustained three shots to his stomach and was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital, while another person luckily escaped unharmed.
The police have confirmed that around 12:30hrs, an armed man exited a motor vehicle and discharged several rounds at the duo and escaped. Eyewitnesses disclosed that the car – a Toyota Premio – had a PNN registration and two persons were inside, including a driver and an armed gunman in the back seat.
This newspaper understands that at the time of the shooting, the businessman and his employee were loading a Freezer into a canter truck, when the bandits drove up and the one sporting dreadlocks stepped out and began firing at them. It is believed that the bandits traced the gold-miner to the location.
“It look like the boss man run into the store seeking refuge and another man with him was shot couple times before them man jump back into the car and get away, they didn’t get anything because the boss man had the bag in his hand when he was running,” the eyewitness said. Meanwhile, police sources disclosed that Ali’s home was the target of a drive-by shooting weeks ago in Tuschen. [Rabindra Rooplall]
