STAG Super16 Beach Football Festival on this Sunday

 

BEACH football lovers will have a chance to get in on football action this weekend when the STAG Beer Beach soccer festival gets underway on Sunday and Monday on the seawall between Everest Cricket Club and the Softball ground.The game will be 15 minutes per half after which tied games will see an extra three minutes then the penalty shootout to decide a winner in the knockout tournament.
According to a release, the penalty kicks will be sudden-death rules. Each team will have eight players and upon receipt of a yellow card, the player must spend two minutes on the side-line.
The red card rule remains the same in that a player who is shown a red card must leave the field entirely.
However, they can substitute the red-carded player with another after two minutes.
The 16-team tournament will see Bent Street vs Upper Setter in the first game while North East and Old School Ballerz will play the second game on Sunday.
Back Circle will face Rio Stars, North Ruimveldt will play Albouystown, Tiger Bay will play Channel 9, Globe Yard face Gold Is Money, Leopold Street play North East and Sparta Boss take on Mojo.
Up for grabs are $150 000 and a trophy for the winners, $75 000 for the second place finishers.
The quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will be played on Easter Monday.
Among the supporters of the tournament are the National Sports Commission and Trophy Stall.
