Let’s work for unity, AFC urges

The Alliance For Change (AFC) extends Phagwah (Holi) greetings to all the citizens of Guyana, especially our Hindu brothers and sisters. Holi is a festival that celebrates the coming of a new Spring season, the ushering in of new life, of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil. It reflects the hope of our people for a better life.Over the years, Phagwah has become a national event where all Guyanese, regardless of race and religion, celebrate the beginning of this period (Spring). The commemoration of the festival with water, bright colours and the burning of the holika is an event that all Guyanese have grown to look forward to. It is a reflection of the Guyanese identity; it is part of our multi-cultural society.
This year, as we share joy and celebrate with our friends, family and even strangers, let us remember the religious significance of Holi and recommit ourselves to working for good and not evil. Let us banish race hate and all forms and concepts of disunity from our midst.
Happy Holi to all Guyanese!
