See below a press release issued by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) on Monday, March 21, 2016

The Local Government Elections (LGE) concluded on Friday March 18, 2016, with the Returning Officers declaring the results, after the votes were counted for the respective Constituencies.

These declarations were made in the presence of Party Agents, who signed the Statements of Poll, as required.

Elections were held free, transparently and fairly in 542 Constituencies in Guyana, with 1562 Polling Stations available for voting. The total number of votes cast is 239, 070, from this amount, 236,323 were valid, while 2747 were spoilt ballots.

Recounts were conducted in District 6 and Region Three, revealed the same amounts as when counted initially.
