THE Georgetown Football Club’s (GFC) miserable run in the STAG Elite League Finale continued last Wednesday, as they fell 4–1 to the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) at the Tucville Community Centre ground. On the same night, the home team, Fruta Conquerors strolled to an impressive 2–0 win over arch rivals Pele FC.
Having lost four of their five games so far, GFC sit at the bottom of the eight-team table winless with just one point.
Facing a GDF team, determined to finish in the league’s top four clubs – something they failed to do in League’s Genesis, GFC were put before the Amry’s firing squad, with Olvis Mitchell being the primary marksman.

Mitchell finished the night scoring three of GDF’s four goals, with his first coming in the 12th minute and another in the 15th minute.
The GDF led 2-0 at the end of the first half but the one-sided affair continued upon resumption of the second stanza, as Mitchell finished his hat-trick in the 55th minute – four minutes after Lennox Cort had scored, to bring GFC back into the game.
Sherwin Green scored the GDF’s other goal (78th minute) as coach Denzil Thompson’s side now move to third place in the standings behind Fruta Conquerors.
Fruta Conquerors with goals from Jahall Greaves (11th minute) and Jermine Junor (66th minute) ensured that the Tucville-based squad remained in second place as Pele slumped further down the table.
The league continued last night at the Leonora Stadium with Alpha United playing Buxton United and Slingerz FC facing Monedderlust.
