SKIPPER Leon Johnson fell 21 runs short of his fourth first-class hundred, but rain for most parts of the day saw the ninth round match of the WICB/Professional Cricket League (PCL) four-day tournament between Guyana Jaguars and Leeward Islands Hurricanes end in a draw at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground, Antigua.The defending champions closed on 222-8 with Shivnarine Chanderpaul unbeaten on 25 and Devendra Bishoo on 16.
Johnson made 79 and Vishaul Singh contributed 32, but after suffering a middle order collapse at the closing stage of the day’s play, Chanderpaul and Bishoo stood firm ensuring no further trouble.
Johnson and Singh resumed the day on 108-2, 24 runs behind the Hurricanes first-innings lead of 132 runs.
However, the pair wiped out the remaining deficit and slowly built the Jaguars second-innings reply between several rain-breaks before the middle order collapse.
Guyana will now play Jamaica Scorpions from Friday at the Guyana National Stadium.
In the other two matches: Barbados Pride whipped Trinidad and Tobago Red Force by seven wickets. Scores in the game: Barbados 396 and 74-3; T&T Red Force 226 and 240.
In the other match, Jamaica Scorpions beat Windward Islands Volcanoes by nine wickets. Scores in the game: Jamaica Scorpions 445 and 143-1; Windward Islands Volcanoes 233 and 350.
