SELF-CONFESSED drug dealer Barry Dataram, his common-law wife Anjanie Boodnarine, together with Kevin Charran and Trevor Gouveia, who were all charged with possession of narcotics, made yet another appearance before City Magistrate Judy Latchman as the trial into the allegation continued on Monday. It is alleged that on April 16, at Silver Dam, Fourth Avenue, Diamond Housing Scheme, EBD, the defendants had in their possession 129.230 kilogrammes of cocaine (equivalent to 284 pounds) for the purpose of trafficking. The illicit substance was found by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) when its members conducted a raid on the said property.
The accused persons have all pleaded not guilty to the offence when they were arraigned before then Chief Magistrate Priya Seunarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court in April, 2015.
In the trial on Monday, Officer Anthony Yard, who is attached to CANU and who led the raid, told the court that on the day in question, he and other ranks conducted a search on the property in Diamond. When the ranks entered the property, he said, they identified themselves, and he (Yard) asked who the owner of the property was. Dataram identified himself as the owner.
In his evidence, the officer positively identified the four accused as the persons he had seen at the house on the day in question.
The matter has been adjourned until Wednesday, March 16, 2016, for continuation of trial.
