A MINIBUS driver was granted $800,000 bail on a charge of causing death by dangerous driving, following an accident which claimed the life of a pensioner on March 5, 2016.

Three days after the fatal accident, Sherwin Hopkinson, 30, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
It is alleged that Hopkinson at Aubrey Barker Public Road, drove in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing William Trim’s death.
The case was prosecuted by Police Corporal, Deniro Jones, who told the court that on the day in question, Hopkinson was driving his minibus at a fast rate along the Aubrey Barker road and overtook several vehicles.
Trim had just left a shop in the area and had just driven out when the speeding minibus crashed into his motor vehicle and turned turtled.
The 76-year-old man of Wren Avenue, South Ruimveldt Gardens was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he died while receiving medical attention
Bail was granted with no objection from the prosecution and the case was adjourned until March 30.
