A FATHER of three lost his life on Saturday night when a motorcycle crashed into him while he was walking on the Hope Public Road, East Coast Demerara, on his way to a wake house.Dead is 49-year-old Deodatram Nandram of Helena Number Two, Mahaica, also on the East Coast.
According to the police, an investigation has been launched into the accident, which reportedly occurred at about 23:40hrs on Saturday.
Nandram was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital, while the motorcycle that allegedly struck him down, the police say, was found abandoned at the scene of the accident without the registration number.
According to Nandram’s relatives, the motorcycle is well known in the Mahaica area, and the police should be apprehending the suspect soon, if he hasn’t yet turned himself in.
Nandram’s sister, Savita, said her brother, who was a labourer, was very popular in the village and was known to be kind and loving.
Besides his children, Nandram leaves to mourn four sisters and three brothers.
Investigations are also being conducted into a fatal accident that occurred on the Number 70 Village Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice at about 10:00h on Sunday. It resulted in the death of motorcyclist Jewram Khublallchand, 45, of Number 75 Village, Corentyne.
A police press release said investigations revealed that the driver of a motor lorry attempted to overtake the motorcyclist but collided with him.
Kbublallchand was rushed to the Skeldon Hospital, where he succumbed while receiving medical treatment.
The driver of the motor lorry is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
