Cruiserweight Wayne `Big Truck’ Braithwaite has been away from competitive boxing since October 2012. Braithwaite, the second Guyanese to win a world title, had his last victory on March 6, 2010.He fought Adam Harris at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut and needed only one round to dispose of his opponent.
Harris lost by a Technical Knock Out (TKO) with one second left in the first round. The southpaw Braithwaite would then rush into two successive defeats which ushered in his unofficial retirement. Fighting back in Guyana following an absence of 14 years, the `Big Truck’ was proven not road worthy against Barbadian Shawn `The Sniper’ Cox.
Local fans gathered at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on February 25, 2012 were in for a shock as Braithwaite, now fighting in the heavyweight division, was over powered by Cox and knock down three times leading to a first round Knock Out.
In October of the same year, Braithwaite moved down back to the cruiserweight division and returned from the USA to battle compatriot Shawn Corbin.
The former World Boxing Council (WBC) champion was defeated by Unanimous Decision. Braithwaite has not entered the ring since and will turn 41 in August
