Case of the missing gold bar

A LAB TECHNICIAN attached to the Guyana Gold Board was placed on $200,000 bail after he made an appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday, charged with stealing gold from the company.Thirty year old Ronald Singh who resides at Hibiscus Avenue, Eccles, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge that was read to him by City Magistrate Judy Latchman, which stated that on February 19, 2016 at Brickdam he stole eight ounces and nine grams of gold valued $2,153,034, property of Guyana Gold Board.
Singh was represented by attorney-at-Law, George Thomas who, in his submission to the court, stated that his client had not left the confines of his work place with the gold and it was his daily duty to test the substance. A no-bail submission made by Police Prosecutor, Kerry Bostwick stated that the manager called in the police after realizing that the bar was missing. Singh was questioned and he later handed over the gold to the police.
Singh received bail on the condition that he has to lodge his passport and report periodically to the Criminal Investigations Department, Eve Leary.
He is expected to return to court on March 10 for statement.
