DEFENDING champions Berbice sent the GCB President’s X1 crashing to an eight-wicket defeat with 16 overs to spare in their round one game of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) sponsored Dave West Indian Exports Guy-NY Inter-county Under-15 tournament.In the match played yesterday at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, off-spinner Aaron Beharry led the way with the ball, claiming 3-21. He was supported by Seon Glasgow (2-26) and Nigel Deodat (2-14). Their combined effort eventually saw the GCB President X1 bowled out for 124 in 45.1 overs.
Despite a friendly looking Bourda pitch, Daniel Dharamdat and Abdul Ramsammy were the only two batsmen to reach double figures with 27 and 20 respectively.
Set a revised target of 105 in 37 overs because of rain, Berbice romped to victory in 21 overs. Carl Gilgeous led the way with 31 while Fawaz Gafoor made 11, the two batsmen to be dismissed.
Jerron France and Man-of-the-Match Glasgow were left unbeaten on 22 and 18 respectively when the target was achieved.
Over at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground, Demerara whipped Essequibo by 109 runs. Scores; Demerara 256-6, Essequibo in reply reached 147-6. No further scores from the game were made available because the scorebooks were not available.
In tomorrow’s second round, Berbice will play Demerara at DCC and Essequibo clash with the GCB President X1 at Wales.
