CABINET has approved the participation of Minister of Public Telecommunications, Catherine Hughes at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Caribbean Association of National Telecommunication Organisation’s (CANTO) workshop on forged broadband infrastructure inventory and public awareness in the Caribbean.

Minister Hughes is attending that two-day workshop in Port-au-Prince, Haiti that commenced on Wednesday. Mr. Lance Hinds who is advising the minister is also in attendance. This was announced to the media at a post-Cabinet briefing held by Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman.
The workshop will focus on public policy recommendations for the design of national broadband strategies and the next steps that are to be taken. It will also provide the opportunity for the CANTO members and key Information Computer Technology (ICT) Ministers, policy makers and regulators to share perspectives and ideas on ICT issues in the Caribbean.
CANTO was founded in 1985 as a non-profit association consisting of telephone operating companies in the Caribbean. That was the first time operating companies had come together to deal with telecommunication issues independently, out of mutual concern. In 1999 under the laws of Trinidad and Tobago, CANTO was registered as a non-profit organisation. The secretariat was established in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. Its membership is available to educational institutions, equipment suppliers among other users of telecommunication services.
