COOL Runnings demolished Attention Family (10-3), to end the opening night of the Guyana Beach Soccer Association (GBSA) National championship last Sunday at the Bayrock Community Centre Beach Soccer facility. The first game, however, was a drawn game between Linden’s Hi Stars and the visiting Buxton Youth Developers ending 3-3.
Jashawn Douglas began the scoring for the Buxton team and other strikes were by Vincent Stephens and Yannick Simon, but Hi Stars replied through a double from Colwyn Davidson and the other through Thaddeus DeFreitas.
In the second game Royal Youth beat West Front Road 4-1. Quacy Tavafa netted one, while Allan Halley scored a hat-trick and ensured Royal Youth West came away winners. Front Road’s lone goal was netted by Randolph Wagner.
Linden-based Silver Bullets hammered Alexander village 4-1 with Colwyn Drakes netting twice. Romel Matthews and Michael Wilson scored one apiece while Alexander Village’s Jermane Junior got the consolation goal.
The fourth game saw Sparta Boss easing ahead of KK Warriors 3-1 as Dennis Edwards scored two and Roberto Osborne one for the winners. Ryan Scott was the lone scorer for the Warriors.
The competition continues on Sunday at the Kuru Kururu ground with another five matches.
In the final game on the opening night Cool Runnings brushed aside Attention Family with a quadruple of goals off the boot of striker Deon Charter, a hat-trick from Marmarlaque Davidson and one each from Jermaine Grandison, Keon Sears, Kennard Simon.
Attention Family’s Jamal Haynes, Hosea Waddell and Antawaine each netted once for the losers.
Prior to the kick-off, the teams were met by representatives from the Corona Beer product – the tournament’s major sponsor – and Regional Chairman of Region Ten, Renis Morian, along with GBSA president Rollin Tappin among other officials.
