TWENTY-FIVE persons graduated on Friday last after completing an excavator operator training programme put on by Machinery Corporation of Guyana Limited (MACORP).

The programme lasted for seven weeks, and now they are able to carry out, among other things, basic operation techniques, identify excavator components, and carry out maintenance procedures. They were also schooled in safety.

“This batch marks a total of 739 trainees who graduated from the programme, which started in 2008 with the aim of equipping technicians and operators with skills to service and operate Caterpillar equipment and machinery, while creating a future for young Guyanese,” MACORP said in a statement.

The best graduating trainee was Rasheed Harrison, while Bisram Ramrattan placed second and Kwame Sinclair third. They were each awarded for their outstanding performances.

MACROP said it continues to play a pivotal role in the country’s development, by contributing directly to technical support and supply of equipment to related sectors –- mining, agriculture, road construction, basic industry, marine, forestry, and electrical power generation.

Branches have been established at Bartica and Port Kaituma, in addition to operations at its head office at Providence, East Bank Demerara.
MACORP is the only authorised Caterpillar dealer in Guyana, and has been operating for over 20 years.
