AS the beautification of Georgetown gathers momentum, the Guyana National Shipping Corporation Limited (GNSCL) has decided to boost the effort by donating six benches to the Mayor and City Council (M&CC).These benches have been grounded at the Merriman Mall Play Park, and will increase seating capacity in the area, creating the opportunity for more persons to relax and take their younger ones there for an outing.

When asked what sparked their interest in making such a contribution, Project Manager of GNSCL, Eion Oudkerk, disclosed that the company is in support of the President’s notion of making Georgetown “clean, green and beautiful.”

Oudkerk noted: “This is not our first time assisting the M&CC in the restoration of the Garden City, because when there was the Green Expo, we made a monetary donation, and thus (we) thought it best to continue supporting.”

GNSCL, he said, will be looking for other ways in which they can assist the M&CC in restoring the Garden City to its former glory.

Meanwhile, Deputy Town Clerk Sherry Jerrick lauded the shipping company for its donation and expressed appreciation for its future support.
