Man charged for attempting murder

Aubrey Bender, 28, of Lot 54 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs Marcus charged for attempting murder.The charges stemmed from an incident on January 16 at Lot 49 Stanleytown, where Dwayne De Jonge was wounded.
De Jonge had bought a friend ‘fire rage’, and had gone to the defendant to ‘settle the score’ when he sustained injuries.
In the New Amsterdam Court on Thursday, Attorney Tania Warren Clement told the magistrate that it was the victim who approached the accused, and her client acted in self-defence.
Police Sergeant Phillip Sheriff, prosecuting, noted that the victim is still hospitalised at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
Magistrate Marcus ordered that the defendant post bail in the sum of $500,000, lodge his passport and report to the Central Police Station every Friday at 1800hrs, until the completion of the matter.
Particulars of the charge revealed,that on January 16, at Lot 49 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice, with intent to commit murder, Bender wounded De Jonge.
The matter is fixed for hearing on February 17.
