CLARENCE Carter, 52, a carpenter of Phase One ‘B’ Linden, was on Thursday remanded to prison when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan charged with the murder of his reputed wife.It is alleged that on January 18 he murdered 34-year-old Leolyn Sulivan. He was not required to plead to the capital offence of murder. He was remanded to prison and the case was transferred to the Linden Magistrate Court for February 2.
According to the police, the couple was involved in a heated argument during which Carter reportedly stabbed his wife about her body.
Clarence also reportedly stabbed his foster daughter Shemeka Campbell to her neck and upper right hand in an attempt to kill her. His other foster daughter, Saskeya Campbell, was attacked, but managed to escape by running away.
Carter reportedly turned the knife on himself and cut his throat in an attempt to take his life. He was taken to the Linden Hospital under police guard.
The couple had shared a common-law relationship for about five years and two children were born from it, ages three and seven. Leolyn was a vendor at the Mackenzie Market, and was described as a hard working person. She leaves to mourn six children.
