Two persons lost their lives on Thursday morning (January 21) following separate road accidents on the East Coast Demerara roadway.
According to a police release, investigations are being conducted into a fatal accident that occurred about 04:30 hrs on the Goedverwagting Railway Embankment Road, East Coast Demerara, and which resulted in the death of Laurel Forde, 38 years, of Prince William Street, Plaisance, ECD.
Investigations have revealed that Forde was driving a motor vehicle allegedly at a fast rate when she lost control and collided with a concrete fence. She received injuries and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, police are also investigating another accident, which occurred at approximately 05:20 hrs on the Hand-en-Veldt Public Road, Mahaica, ECD.
This accident claimed the life of pedal cyclist Edmond Smith, 55 years, of Helena No. 1, Mahaica, ECD.
Investigations revealed that the pedal cyclist was proceeding along the roadway when he is alleged to have swerved into the path of a motor vehicle and was struck down.
He received injuries and was taken to the GPHC where he was pronounced dead on arrival; the driver of the vehicle is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
