WITH less than two weeks before the 007 and Legacy Entertainment’s Unity Cricket gets going, organisers are touting the programme as a family-themed event featuring fun for all ages.During the launch of the cricket festival on Tuesday morning, member of the Promotion Group 007 and Legacy Entertainment, Ewart Lewis, contended that the one-day activity, set for January 30 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, will feature something for every member of the family.
“We see it as not just unity, but as a time for family; most times daddy could go somewhere and mommy can’t go somewhere; so we saw it best to bring everyone together one place for some time that they can enjoy together,” contended Lewis
He noted that given the nature of society within the last few weeks – suicide and all – the event could not have come at a better time, reminding fans to come out to witness clean entertainment.
Meanwhile, corporate sponsor Digicel, through its Senior Sponsorship Executive, Louanna Abrams, added that the company is always ready to fulfil its corporate social responsibility.
She hinted at major giveaways for Digicel customers heading to the game.
Others in attendance included Technical Development Officer of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Collin Stuart, president of the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association Ramchand Ragbeer and cricketers Ramnaresh Sarwan and Jonathon Foo.
The event will feature regional stars like Chris Gayle, Jason Holder, Darren Sammy, Dwayne Smith, Lendl Simmons, Andre Fletcher, Samuel Badree, Sulieman Benn, Ryad Emrit, Nicholas Pooran and Raymon Reifer.
The local participants will comprise Christopher Barnwell, Rajendra Chandrika, Veerasammy Permaul, Assad Fudaduin, Foo, Sarwan, Anthony Bramble, Ronsford Beaton, Leon Johnson, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford and Robin Bacchus.
Sarwan and Barnwell will be the two captains of the mixed team event with the respective squads to be announced in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile the body has confirmed the blessing of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the GCB, the territorial body.
The day will also feature five softball matches, inclusive of one Female and one Masters, as well as a fun park for the children when the gates open at 09:30hrs on January 30.
Live commentary of the feature T20 affair with all the stars will be broadcast via the National Communications Network (NCN) Radio.
Fans in attendance on the evening will have the chance to win US$500 dollars if they can take a one-handed catch during the final.
Tickets for the event go on sale today at various venues across Guyana and cost $2 000 dollars while persons who wait to pay at the gate will have to pay a $1 000 increase.
