A 22-YEAR-OLD man, Keith Junor, of 54 “E” Field Sophia, excited at the promise made by his sister to take him to Suriname, set out on foot, walking from Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown, to La Grange, West Bank Demerara, after hearing that she had arrived in the country for Old Year’s.Walking the entire length of the Demerara Harbour Bridge on Old Year’s Day, Junor had almost reached his destination when tragedy struck. He recalled that it was just around 20:00 hrs when a car travelling in the opposite direction at a fast rate of speed ploughed into him, causing him to land heavily on his abdomen.
In the process, he sustained a deep cut which carries more than 15 clamps. There are multiple fractures on both legs and both knees are broken. His abdomen and arms are also badly bruised.
The car was said to have turned over after it crashed into the young man. Public-spirited residents of the area, on seeing the accident, placed the injured man into a motorcar and rushed him to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
He was stabilised and transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he remains warded with both legs in cast.
But pathetically, while in hospital, Junor learnt that his sister had not arrived in Guyana, as he was made to understand, but was expected Monday.
Keith Junor is the son of Lorraine Nichols and Keith Hercules and has one brother and two sisters.
