Mayor’s 81st Birth Anniversary football seven-a-side champion team to be decided today

THE winning team of the Mayor’s 81st Birth Anniversary Seven-a-Side football tournament will be decided today when round of eight concludes at the Den Amstel ground, West Coast Demerara, beginning at 14:00 hrs.In the eight-team finals, Kitty will face Lima Dam in the opening game; Uitvlugt will come up against Haslington in game two; Victoria will face Pouderoyen in the third game and host Den Amstel tackles Mahaica in the final round-of-eight match.
The winner of game one will then meet the winners of game three and the winners of the second game will match skills with the winner of game four.
The finals will bring together the winners of games five and six, while the two losing teams will do battle for the third and fourth places.
The winning team of the final will receive $200,000 and a trophy, compliments of John Fernandes limited, while the runner-up team will draw down $100,000 and a trophy, compliments of the Department of Sports.
The player scoring the most goals in the competition will receive a three-piece suit, compliments of AH&L Kissoon and to date Trayon Bobb of Uitvlugt leads the field with six goals to his credit.
Quincy Moore of Mahaica follows with three goals, while Marvin Josiah (Pouderoyen), Keon Moore (Victoria), Kevaughn Ward (Den Amstel) and Anthony Sancho (Kitty) all have two goals each to date.
The third-place team will earn $70,000 and a trophy from China Trading and $30,000 and a trophy from the Business School, respectively.
