Mayor’s Birth Anniversary finals definitely set for tomorrow

THE Mayor’s 81st Birth Anniversary Seven-a-Side football tournament finals will ‘definitely’ be played tomorrow at the Den Amstel ground, West Coast Demerara, beginning at 14:00hrs.
The round-of-eight finals were originally set for the Thirst Park ground more than a month ago but the unavailability of the venue caused tournament organiser and former National footballer and coach Lennox `Mullen’ Arthur to reschedule.
In the eight-team finals, Kitty will face Lima Dam in the opening game; Uitvlugt will come up against Haslington in game two; Victoria will face Pouderoyen in the third game and hosts Den Amstel tackle Mahaica in the final round of eight matches.
The winner of game one will then meet the winner of game three and the winner of the second game will match skills with the winner of game four.
The final will bring together the winners of games five and six while the two losing teams will do battle for the third and fourth places.
The winning team in the final will receive $200 000 and a trophy, compliments of John Fernandes Limited, while the runner-up team will draw down $100 000 and a trophy compliments of the Department of Sport.
The player scoring the most goals in the competition will receive a three-piece suite, compliments of AH&L Kissoon and to date Trayon Bobb of Uitvlugt leads the field with six goals to his credit.
Quincy Moore of Mahaica follows with three goals, while Marvin Josiah (Pouderoyen), Keon Moore (Victoria), Kevaughn Ward (Den Amstel) and Anthony Sancho (Kitty) all have two goals each to date.
The third-placed team will earn $70 000 and a trophy from China Trading and $30 000 and a trophy from the Business School.
