CLINTON Mercurius, who was charged with wounding a man was placed on $75,000 bail yesterday when he appeared in the courtroom of Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.The charge read that on November 16 at Friendship, East Bank Demerara the accused unlawfully and maliciously wounded Andrew Bender with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or to cause actual bodily harm.
He was not required to plead, since the charge was deemed indictable. However when the Administration of Justice was applied, the 34-year old construction worker denied the allegation.
Mercurius’ attorney, told the court that his client was being attacked by the virtual complainant and only acted in self defense.
The prosecution did not relate the facts to the court or make objections to bail being granted. The matter was transferred to Providence Magistrate’s Court for January 14.
