Elsie Enid D’Anjou was born on May 10, 1925 to Percy and Ruth Leighton (deceased) in Georgetown, British Guiana.She peacefully went home to be with the Lord on December 12, 2015, in the arms of her grand-daughter, Penette.
Enid, Aunty Baby or Granny Baby, as she is fondly known, attended Charlestown Convent, Trinity Government School and then NPC.
After graduating from school, Enid worked in the printing industry, first at Persic Printery, then Lithographic and then Guiana Graphic, which was later incorporated into Guyana National Newspapers, where she worked until retiring in 1986. Upon retiring she received a “Long Service Certificate” from the Guyana National Newspapers, Ltd.
On August 4, 1951, Enid was married to Hulbert D’Anjou and this union produced one daughter, Esther. After their marriage came to an end in 1958, Enid lived with her Life Partner, Edgar McDonald, who also worked in the printing industry until his death in 1994.
Enid was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, who placed all her troubles into the hands of the Lord. She was baptized on May 26, 1985 in the Christadelphian Church (Brothers in Christ) in Guyana, where she remained an active member. She spent her retirement doing the things she loved which were reading, cooking and crocheting (knitting).
When her health started to deteriorate, Enid migrated to the United States in 2014, so she could be close to her family members, who all resided in North America. There she received the medical attention and care she needed.
Enid leaves to celebrate her life on earth her daughter, Esther and her son-in-law Patrick George, along with her grandchildren Penette Aaron, Clairlyn Ashby and Rhinold George; her great grandchildren Kayla, Raphael, Raquel and CJ; her brother Douglas Leighton and sister Patsy Cloutier; nieces & nephews: Patricia Chee, Cassie Leighton and Raymond Cloutier; great nieces & nephews: Rachael Shanahan, Christopher Jenna and Jack Spinzola; great great nieces& nephews:, Jason, Elissia, Melissia, Keirstyn, Emily, Nyzir, Isyss, Nailah and Natalia. Celebrating her life were also her great sons-in-law Junior and Cleon; along with her step-children Yvonne, Claudette, Herbert and Wendy.
