Failing to deliver proves costly

CITY Magistrate Alex Moore yesterday ordered Sham Lallchamd to pay $15,000 to Phoolmattie Singh on or before February 16, 2016, or serve six weeks by default. He was also ordered to serve 50 hours of community service on or before February 20, 2016.These orders were made after he appeared before Magistrate Moore to answer the charge of fraudulent conversion.
The charge read that on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Stabroek Market, he fraudulently converted to his own use and benefit $7,200, the property of Phoolmattie Singh.
The defendant, on the day in question, was entrusted with the money to buy two cases of GT beer at the market, but he never returned with the money or the item. He was later apprehended by the virtual complainant’s fiancé and taken to the police station, where he was charged. He was expected to return to court on February 22, 2016 for report.
