Hundreds of schoolchildren who attend the several schools on Woolford Avenue in the city have to walk through the high traffic area where there is no pavement for pedestrians. In the perilous circumstances, motor vehicles vie for space among the throngs of lively but vulnerable schoolchildren along the narrow roadway. During Road Safety Month in November, the Guyana Chronicle snapped the above photo of Woolford Avenue just after schools were dismissed one afternoon. This publication was invited to the scene by some concerned teachers and parents who are hoping that the authorities would become aware of this particular traffic peril.
