Guyana attested that they were the dominant factor at the recently concluded Commonwealth Power-lifting Championships in British Columbia, Canada where the team walked away with best ever performances to date in their maiden appearance with an almost perfect total of 8 out of nine overall gold medals in the different weight classes.In the women’s category at the Sub Junior Level (52kg), Britney Mack took the gold medal after producing a lift of 257.5kg in Total while in the Junior Male Division (83kg class), Rudolph Blackmon managed a Total 685.0kg lift for his gold medal.
In the Open Male, at the 74kg class Osmond Mack posted a hefty Total of 650.0kg for his medal though the result of a drug test is still pending.
At the 93kg class Marino Jeffrey was also hauled in for testing after his gold medal winning performance of 685.0kg Total, while at the 93kg class Erwyn Smith with a 600.0kg Total carted off silver and at the 105kg class, Karel Mars with a total of 650.0kg, took gold.
In the Masters 2 Division (50 – 60 age group), at the 74kg class Winston Stoby struck gold after lifting a Total of 637.5kg, while 83kg class athlete Edwin Spencer combined his lifts for a Total of 482.0kg and the gold medal.
At the Masters 4 (70 and over age group), in the 83kg class Nairanjan Singh with a Total – 410.0kg took first place.
The team returned home on Monday.
