Lounge named after Dwayne Jacobs

In honour of aircraft loader, Dwayne Jacobs, whose life was lost when Trans Guyana Airways’, Cessna 208B Grand Caravan, crashed on January 18, 2014, after take-off from Olive Creek on its way to Imbaimadai, Trans Guyana Airways (TGA) yesterday opened its new “Dwayne Jacobs” Passenger Departure Lounge at Ogle Airport. Canadian pilot, Blake Slater also lost his life during the crash. Ms. Roslyn Jacobs, Dwayne Jacob’s mother, and his brother Shawn Williams were present at the opening of the new Lounge. The new Lounge will service Trans Guyana’s domestic scheduled and chartered flights to all of its hinterland destinations, including Lethem, Annai, Karanambu, Port Kaituma, Mabaruma, Ekereku, Kamarang and Imbaimadai.
Director of TGA operations Andre Farinha who gave brief remarks said the event was a special one for the Correia Group of Companies..
“We have already named our company airstrip at Ekereku middle after Captain Blake Slater, now its Dwayne’s turn.”
In reflecting on Jacobs’s life, Farinha said he joined Trans Guyana airways as a handyman on 25, October 25, 2044 and due to his outstanding performance he was promoted to the position of aircraft loader. He said Jacobs’s appraisal form stated that he was exceptional in dealing with customers.
“Plait Hair as he was fondly known to us was everything you could ask for in an employee in the service industry. He was pleasant and with a great smile. He would often be the first to greet passengers and assist them with their luggage, in addition to this he also displayed great regard for authority,” the operations director noted.
