THE police are investigating the attack on a salesman who works at the Bakewell bond, Palmyra, Berbice, Region 6, on Saturday.According to reports, about 18:30 hrs, two robbers, one armed with a cutlass and the other with a gun, entered the company’s bond and headed towards the supervisor who was about to enter his car.
The Supervisor Andre Sukhwa said he did not notice the men until they got close to him.
The man with the cutlass, he said “fired” several chops in his direction, chopping him on both hands, which he used to fend off the attack. He lost a finger in the assault.
While that was happening, the attacker with the gun went into his car and took away his wallet which contained $80,000, his personal money.
After the attack, the Bakewell Supervisor telephoned a co-worker who took him to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he received medical attention.
According to reports, the two bandits went into Number Two Village, Canje and were not pursued.
The guard, who was on duty at the time of the incident, told this publication that he opened the gate for Sukhwa to drive out when the bandits struck.
The guard related that he tried calling neighbours for assistance but to no avail.
The robbers reportedly returned several hours after, promising to come again, this time when it is close to Christmas.
The guard has since said that one of the men was recently dismissed by the company.
Police have launched an investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, in another incident, police said investigations are being conducted into an incident in which Devon Sears, 40, of Hadfield Street, Georgetown, was shot and injured to his jaw while driving a motor vehicle along David Street, Kitty, about 18: 50 hrs yesterday.
He has been admitted to hospital for medical attention.
In another incident, on Friday, police have detained and will soon charge a man who was searched at 14 Miles Issano and found with an unlicensed 99mm. Smith and Wesson Pistol.
