Guyana Jaguars was still on course for victory on the penultimate day of their third round 2015/16 WICB Professional Cricket League (PCL) Regional Four-Day match against Barbados Pride which ended at the Guyana National Stadium, yesterday with the Guyanese needing another seven wickets going into the final day.The Bajans still need to clear off another 67 runs at stumps as they reached 166 – 3 after being made to follow-on. Shamar Brooks will resume on day four on 30 while Miguel Cummins, the night watchman, is yet to l come off the mark.
The visitors lost the crucial wicket of Jonathan Carter for 89 in the last over of the day to make shift leg-spinner Leon Johnson who broke the stubborn 84-run third wicket partnership he shared with Brooks. Carter faced 225 balls, 12 of which were dispatched graciously to the boundary.
He also survived four dropped chances by the Guyanese but his luck ran out when he found Vishaul Singh on the deep square leg boundary.
Kemar Braithwaite (15) was the first to fall with the score on 20 once again, and again to Permaul, this time leg before wicket. At lunch Pride were 38 – 1. Carter joined Corbin (24) and took the score to 82 before Motie broke the 62-run partnership.
At that point Brooks and Carter led a good fightback taking their side to 112 – 2 at tea. The pair batted confidently as they approached close of play but there was a nine-minute halt in play when wicketkeeper Anthony Bramble left the field, not long after Carter gave the fifth catch opportunity that was capitalised on.
Jaguars ended Pride’s first innings early in the morning session with the visitors being bowled out for 104, Jaguars therby enforcing the follow on . Pride, resuming from their overnight score of 60 – 4 lost their last six wickets for 44 runs as Steven Jacobs and Motie tormented the lower order.
The eventful morning saw Mario Rampersaud (9) and Roston Chase (14) being dismissed in quick succession, both caught by Johnson at first slip off Motie and Jacobs, respectively.
Skipper Kevin Stoute was left unbeaten on 11 as he watched Ashley Nurse (02), Sulieman Benn (00), top scorer Tino Best (19) and Cummins (06) all lost their wickets rapidly.
Motie finished with 3 – 19, Permaul had 3 – 41, Jacobs grabbed 2-18 and Ronsford Beaton claimed 1 – 15.
Today’s play is scheduled to bowl off at 9:30 hrs. (Kizan Brumell).
