Generation gap, elitism factors in row with former WICB bosses-Cameron

WICB president Dave Cameron believes that a generational gap may be responsible for issues experienced between himself and some of the region’s previous administrators.Three former presidents, Sir Wes Hall, Patrick Rousseau and Ken Gordon recently chided the regional head and his administration for being disrespectful to CARICOM leaders.
The trio were also heavily in favour of the recommendation of a recent independently commissioned report, which suggested major structural change for the WICB.
Cameron, one of the youngest ever presidents when he was elected at 42, however, has revealed disappointment at a lack of open communication.
“I think when I look at where I am at and the level of the board and the age of the board, I think there is a generation gap,” Cameron said on Digicel SportsMax’s Sports Zone on Thursday.
“I think there is a generation gap and a discussion I am not sure how to mitigate. If any of these learned gentlemen felt that I was doing the wrong thing, all of them can reach me personally, why not take up the phone,” he added.
One of Cameron’s WICB vice-presidents Emmanuel Nathan had stretched the argument a bit further, as he believed some of the heavy criticism stepped from a kind of elitism. The president could not entirely rule the idea out.
“There probably is. I suspect when you look at the structure that is being proposed by this new report. I am not sure of the architecture, but the idea is to have some governing council be put on the WICB. Who are those members and where are they derived from,” he said.
