Eight teams will do battle today in the final four matches of Georgetown’s Mayor Hamilton Green’s 81st Birth Anniversary Seven-a-Side Football Tournament when play in the competition continues at the Den nAmstel Ground, West Coast Demerara.In the opening game from 14”00hrs, Grove will do battle with Goed Fortuin, while 30 minutes later, Uitvlugt will face Pouderoyen in an all West Coast Demerara affair.
From 15:00hrs, Kitty of Georgetown will face Stewartville, another West Banki Demerara side and final game will bring together Agricola and home side Den Amstel.
The winners of today’s game will join Buxton Youth Developers, Victoria, Mahaica and Haslington in the round of eight which will be played at a venue to be announced by tournament coordinator Lennox `Mullen’ Arthur.
The round of eight will be contested next Sunday and will see play in the quarter finals, semi finals and finals all happening on the same day.
The winners of the tournament will receive $200,000 and a trophy, compliments of John Fernandes Limited, while the runners up will collect $100,000 and a trophy, compliments of the Department of Youth and Sports.
The third and fourth place team will earn $70,000 and $30,000 respectively along with trophies, compliments of China Tradina and The Business School respectively.
The highest goal scorer of the tournament will receive a three-piece suite, compliments of A.H &L. Kissoon.
To date the top goal scorer of the tournament is Quincy Holder of Mahaica with three goals to his credit, while Keon Moore (Victoria), Gordon Grant (Agricola) and Orette Stephen (Stewartville) follows closely with two goals each.
