Former Chief Probation Officer Cromarty dies

FORMER Chief Probation and Welfare Officer, Mr. Nigel Cromarty, of Sixth Street, Alberttown, died at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Sunday, following a brief illness. He was 69.A relative, Mrs. Hazel Belgrave, told the Guyana Chronicle that Cromarty suffered a stroke a few weeks ago, leading to his death on November 8.
A graduate of Queen’s College, he had been a senior public servant for many years, moving up to the position of Chief Probation and Welfare Officer before his retirement. He was a staunch member of the St. George’s Cathedral.
Cromarty is survived by one sister, Jean Younge of the United Kingdom; Belgrave, a cousin who lives in the USA; and other relatives.
A Thanksgiving Service for his life will be held at the St. George’s Cathedral this afternoon, followed by interment at Le Repentir Cemetery.
