WINNERS Connection and Botofago, both having won their opening matches one week ago, will play different opponents tonight – Eagles United and Silver Shattas respectively – when the Upper Demerara Football Association’s (UDFA) First Division League championship continues at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground. The Winners Connection side, having opened their account on a winning note and registering an impressive 6-1 victory over Rosignol United, in the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company’s Petra Organisation League tournament last Saturday, will start as favourites in the UDFA first division League against Eagles United who went down to Silver Shattas 2-1, last Friday in the UDFA tournament.
In addition Winners Connection won their opening UDFA game 4-1 over Net Rockers.
Botofago, on the other hand, will hope to repeat with another win after knocking Blueberry Hill 3-1, to win their first game in the UDFA tournament, but their rivals Silver Shattas will be looking to build on the first win (2-1), they gained over Eagles United.
In the latest UDFA results Hi Stars and Net Rockers were unable to claim victory when they clashed on Sunday, coming away with a 1-1 draw. Damian Wills gave the Rockers side the lead in the 9th minute, but that was matched when Tony ‘Spirit’ Adams netted for Hi Stars in the 18th minute of play and the game ended with the score unchanged.
In the other game of a double-header, Milerock scored a 3-0 win over Blueberry Hill who now have suffered two losses, while Milerock have won their first game in this UDFA championship league.
Milerock, who recovered from their 2-1 opening loss in the Petra Organisation tournament the night before against New Amsterdam United, were led by Ron Fiedtkou’s double as he scored on either half of play for the winners, while the other goal came via Rene Allicock.
Notably, tonight’s match-ups were brought forward from tomorrow’s original schedule, because of the expected Diwali holiday attraction at the tournament venue, the MSC ground. (Joe Chapman)
