Businessman on $100,000 bail on forgery, fraud charges

BUSINESSMAN Omesh Shaw of Lot 163 Waterloo Street, Georgetown appeared on Tuesday before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, and pleaded not guilty to two charges detailing:

(1) that on August 25, 2014, at Georgetown, he uttered to Distribution Services Limited (DSL) a Demerara Bank Limited Cheque, #9 dated 2014/25/08, to the value of $128,460, knowing same to be forged.

(2) The Omesh Variety Store owner, by means of the forged cheque, obtained grocery from DSL to the sum of $128,460.

The unrepresented 49-year-old explained to the court that he operates a store located at the Berbice car park. Prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones, did not object to the businessman being granted bail, and Magistrate McLennan placed Shaw on $100,000 bail before adjourning his matter until November 17 for statements.
