1988 WAS the second busiest year for Michael Benjamin. During that 12-month period the tenacious `Raging Bull’ of Guyana fought an average of once every two months.

Benjamin had only lost once in 16 fights when he collided with Frenchman Karim Rabbi on October 28 in Cayenne, French Guiana.
The two orthodox boxers fought to a 10-round draw. It was the second fight in the South American country for Benjamin, who was coming off a scintillating victory over Ernesto Espana, which earned him the World Boxing Council (WBC) Continental Americas lightweight title.
In his prime, Benjamin was the quintessence of true grit and determination. He encompassed a near-perfect style and could slug or box if the occasion called for it. He won two epic battles with Raul Frank and got a decision former world champion Saoul Mamby.
At present Guyana’s `Raging Bull’ is one of the country’s most qualified sports journalists and will turn 50 next March.
