WJ ENTERPRISE on Wednesday renewed its support for the fifth edition of the Guyana Softball Cup by presenting its sponsorship cheque to the organisers at its Regent Street location. WJ Enterprise, the sole importer and distributor of Croxley Copy Paper, confirmed its support for the mega softball event by coming onboard as a partner for the second year in succession.
Supervisor of the Regent Street business establishment, Teresa Naraine, said the company is overwhelmed to be offered once again the opportunity to be part of the country’s premier softball cricket tournament.
Naraine said the entity has been impressed with the success of the previous four Guyana Softball Cups, and it was an easy decision to recommit its support for another year. She wished the organisers and the local and visiting teams well, and urged softball fans to turn out in their numbers to witness the games.
The Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) is the organising body of the tournament, and secretary of the organisation, Lalta Gainda, was pleased to once again welcome WJ Enterprise as an official partner of the three-day event.
Gainda added that such support is critical to the successful hosting of the competition, noting that an event of such magnitude attracts a hefty budget of approximately $9M.
GFSCA member Petamber Maharaj also used the opportunity to announce that one of New York’s most successful softball teams, Mercenaries, confirmed their participation at the October 30 to November 1 competition. Maharaj also stated that preparations are moving apace, and another successful venture is in the making.
This year’s tournament has attracted 24 teams, spread across the two categories – Open and Masters. Wolf’s Warriors are the defending champions of the Open division, while Floodlights won the Masters category in 2014.
