LOCAL promoters continue to suffer at the hands of ‘Corporate Guyana’ when it comes to the sponsoring of meaningful entertainment ventures.Positive promoters have been lamenting for years the reluctance of corporate entities to sponsor local events that includes local artistes.
Promoters of the ‘Guyana One Love Dominica Concert’ were just recently forced to cancel their event due to lack of sponsorship too.
Several corporate entities were approached and some of them promised to come on board, but pulled out at the last moment, thereby forcing the organisers to call off the show.
This venture was being organised by folks at Vizion Sound Recording Studio, with the intention of giving the proceeds towards helping folks in Dominica, which has been struck by a terrible hurricane not so long ago.
The promoters are very disappointed that Corporate Guyana failed to see the importance of such a venture, and prefer to pour their dollars without hesitating; the moment an overseas is carded to perform here.
The ‘Guyana One Love Dominica’ concert would have been featuring only local artistes, and was carded for tomorrow at the National Park.
Some of the artistes that were tabled to perform were Jackie Hanover, Michelle ‘Big Red’ King, Kwasi ‘Ace’ Edmondson, and Melissa ‘Vanilla’ Roberts.
What a downright shame! When will we start to treat our local artistes in the manner in which they deserve to be treated?
