MORE than two years after police issued a wanted bulletin for Shawn Maltus Fordyce, who had gone berserk and chopped several members of his family in August 2013, officers arrested him yesterday morning in the city.

Fordyce was found on the corners of Church and Alexander Streets selling newspapers for Dorothy Fordyce, his wife, who was one of the persons he had allegedly attempted to murder.
According to reports, Fordyce, who was taken to the Brickdam Police Station at the time of his arrest, is likely to face charges of attempted murder, felonious wounding, and assault. He was subsequently transferred to the Turkeyen Police Station and the matters will be heard at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court.

Fordyce, whose last known addresses were Lot 132 ‘D’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown, and Paradise Village, West Coast Berbice, had launched a cutlass attack on his wife and three children in their Sophia home. It is alleged that an argument had developed between the attacker and his wife because he did not want her to leave the house.

The accused allegedly hacked away at his wife, known as ‘Paper Lady,’ and later turned his attention to three children in the home, which included attorney-at-law Wanda Fortune.
During the confrontation, 12-year-old Donnette Fordyce, Latoya Wilson, 20, and Fortune, were attacked.
Meanwhile, Fortune told this publication yesterday that the moment she heard her step-father was picked up, she dropped everything and went to the police station to confirm that it was him. “I am ecstatic that he is finally caught. You can run, but not forever,” she said.
She recalled how the attack still affected one of her sisters who cannot yet use one of her hands properly. Another sister almost died twice on the operating table, Fortune recalled.
Ms. Fordyce did not offer a comment as to whether or not she would proceed against her husband.
