COME December 26, there will be very strict security arrangements in place for the staging of the Annual Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club Horse Race meet.This is according to Justice Cecil Kennard, who in an invited comment told Chronicle Sport that on `Boxing Day’ turfites will not be allowed to encroach the racing track at the club’s facility, Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice.
According to Justice Kennard, there will be additional police presence to prevent what transpired a few weeks ago when the Rising Sun Turf Club staged its President’s Cup meet which saw several persons sustain injuries after they had run into the path of the horses.
Meanwhile, the feature race of the day will be for horses classified `A’ 3 and Lower over a one-mile distance.
The winner will receive $1M while the other top three finishers will earn $500 000, $250 000 and $125 000 respectively.
Four six-furlong races are also on the day’s card with the first one being for horses classified `E’ and Lower with first prize money worth $500 000. Second-, third- and fourth-place finishers will receive $250 000, $125 000 and $62 000 respectively.
Class `I’ horses will also cover a distance of six furlongs with the winner receiving $220 000. The second-, third- and fourth-place finishers will earn $110 000, $55 000 and $27 000 respectively.
The other six-furlong race is for horses classified H1 and Lower three-year West Indies-bred.
The winner will collect $259 000.
A one-mile race is also billed for the day and is open to horses classified `G1’ and Lower with the winner carting off $300 000, while the other top three finishers will receive $150 000, $75 000 and $38 000 respectively.
The races are run under the Rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority and horse owners are being reminded that they must pay at least $5 000 for each horse they enter for a race.
