A FARMER from the Upper Mazaruni River who is accused of attempting to kill his wife with a boat paddle while being intoxicated with ‘bush rum,’ was yesterday remanded to prison.Thirty-six-year-old Jeffery James was not required to plead to the charge which alleged that he attempted to murder his reputed wife Wanita Beharry on October 12 at Hallova Village, Upper Mazaruni River.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan remanded James and transferred his matter to Kamarang Magistrates’ Court for December 15.
According to a report, the accused was consuming Cojac (an Amerindian alcoholic beverage) when he allegedly returned home intoxicated, armed himself with a boat paddle and dealt several lashes to Beharry about her head and body causing her to lose consciousness.
