MEXICAN Ambassador to Guyana, Ivan Robero Sierra Medel, yesterday paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo, during which they furthered discussions on the Open Government Partnership Global Summit to be held in Mexico.
Prime Minister Nagamootoo thanked the Ambassador for his visit and the information that he received. He noted that this information will better prepare him for his participation in the upcoming summit.

Nagamootoo noted that the principles set out by the Open Government Partnership are principles that the government has adopted.

According to a statement issued after the meeting from the Office of the Prime Minister, Ambassador Medel explained that the principles of transparency, accountability, citizen participation and innovation are now recognised globally as essential tools in the creation of policies that foster inclusive development and strengthen governance.

Mexico, he noted, is the current Lead Chair and has worked to promote a shared vision that fosters openness, accountability and good governance at the national and international levels.
The Open Government Partnership’s Global Summit provides a wonderful opportunity for members of the open government movement to consolidate and build momentum, to reflect on what is working and what is not, and to lay out a framework for further co-operation, exchange and action.

In four years, the Open Government Partnership (OGP) has grown from eight to 66 countries representing one third of the world’s population. This year, an expected 1500 participants including representatives from civil society organisations, businesses and governments will attend the summit to be held in Mexico City from October 27 – 29.

Over the course of a series of workshops, panel discussions, plenaries and social gathering, participants will share experiences from their respective countries and provide real examples of how openness can improve public services, drive economic growth, reduce poverty and make governments more accountable to the people they serve.

This year special attention will be paid to the role ‘open government’ can play in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals of the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
