JONIQUE Abrams, a five-month-old baby, was yesterday afternoon among three persons rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital after the car in which they were travelling slammed into another at the corner of Alexander and David Streets, Kitty.Up to press time, the child’s parents were reportedly moving to have her undergo a CT scan to determine whether she suffered any internal injuries.
According to eyewitnesses, both cars failed to stop at the intersection, causing the accident that resulted in the vehicle with the baby onboard, which was being driven by her father, to flip several times before turning turtle.
The other two occupants of that car Jude Abrams and Leena Abrams, the child’s father and aunt respectively, had to be assisted out of the car by public-spirited citizens.
According to his fiancée Svetlana Marshall, who is also the mother of the child, Jude Abrams, who lives in Barbados, is here on a visit.
The woman, a senior journalist at the Guyana Chronicle, was too emotional to speak about the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Persons who know Abrams told this publication that it was only recently that he started driving here. The vehicle is registered to his fiancée, Marshall.
When this publication arrived on the scene of the accident, the owner of the other car, along with his associates, were removing components of it.
Police traffic ranks arrived at the scene yesterday following the accident, took statements and ordered that the vehicles, PTT 4022 which belongs to Marshall, and PNN 3404, which belongs to the other driver who gave his name as Mervin Moses of Alexander Street, Kitty, be taken to the police station.
