People’s Progressive Party (PPP) General Secretary Clement Rohee is expecting President David Granger to host a press conference upon his return to brief the nation pertaining to his meeting with Venezuela’s Head of State Nicolas Maduro at the UN headquarters on Sunday. This sentiment was noted after Rohee at yesterday’s press conference at Freedom House, Robb Street Georgetown shied away from answering questions pertaining to the party’s perspective on the Venezuela saga and the UN meeting. “I would prefer the President upon his return to Guyana to report to the nation with the Foreign Affairs Minister at his side and to tell us exactly what took place at the UN,” Rohee posited. “I won’t want to comment on anything that took place in New York at the UNGA or anything related to that, let us wait until the President returns and makes a public statement.”
Rohee further said he was not prepared to trust the media reports on the meeting; instead he would await the President’s return before giving any comments. Granger and Maduro met on Sunday night in the Office of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the UN headquarters in New York.
The party leader, Bharrat Jagdeo last week refused to comment on Venezuela sending troops at the border with Guyana.
