The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) will be engaged in a number of activities today and tomorrow involving ranks throughout Guyana.
According to the GDF, today there will be a parachute display, battle muster and Coast Guard Tactical Vessel Manoeuvre.
The battle muster will be held concurrently on all GDF bases. Chief of Staff Brigadier Mark Phillips will address the troops at Timehri, Base Camp Stephenson.
The Coast Guard vessels will also be doing a tactical manoeuvre from the Coast Guard base to the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
On Saturday, the troops at Base Camp Ayanganna will march from Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, to Base Camp Ayanganna and the troops from Base Camp Stephenson will march from Providence, East Bank Demerara to Base Camp Ayanganna.
They will merge at Sandy Babb Street and then the Chief of Staff will take the salute on Sandy Babb Street. This will be followed by his feature address on the Base Camp Ayanganna playfield.
There will also be concurrent marches in Linden and Anna Regina.
The activities by the GDF come in the wake of a move by neighbouring Venezuela to place troops, missiles and gunboats to towns near the Guyana-Venezuela border and in the Cuyuni River.
